Although many aspects of garage door opener repair should be left to the professionals, there are a few little tips and tricks which will make your door opener experience run more smoothly.

Garage Door Opener Tricks and Tips

  •     Don’t leave the remote controls on display: These are essentially keys providing access to your home. If you don’t have a remote on your key fob, then be sure to conceal it in the center console or glove compartment if you must leave it in the vehicle.
  •     Keep the manual handy: Many garage door openers have a variety of features for which you may require instructions for resetting. Don’t just throw the manual in the back of a drawer but keep it handy for future use.
  •     Keep the sensors clear: Dead bugs, dirt and debris can accumulate in the sensor and trigger the safety protocol of not allowing the door to close. When the sensor is blocked, it is tricked into seeing an obstruction in the path of the garage door. You can avoid this by regularly cleaning the sensor and setting bug traps in the garage. This will prevent them from setting home in your warm and dry garage and keep them from the sensitive electronic garage door parts.
  •     Protect the entry pad: Many good quality keyless entry openers have a weather proof coating but this will not keep it looking new and clean forever. You can prevent smudges and water spots with a little water repellent glass cleaner. Test the cleaner on a small discreet area before using on the whole surface.
  •     Keep the moving parts lubricated: Using a lightweight lubricant on all the moving parts will extend the lifespan of your garage door and keep it running smoothly.
